Sicily here we come!

Saturday night we packed up the car and headed down to the port to catch the car ferry to take to Sicily, Italy! We were super excited to take this adventure together! Key word here... adventure!

We took a car selfie while we waited for the doors to open to start the long lines through passport control, car inspection and just lots of lines. But little did we know how long we would be in that car for! This was at about 7:45pm. The doors opened a little after 8:00am and the boat was suppose to be leaving at 11:00pm...

At this point it was close to midnight and we were stuck in a line that did not move! At all!

Now in another line and this time we can see the boat! This was between 1-3am! We were finally on the boat at 3am and left at 4am. We all slept well in our room until 11am so that was nice!

While waiting to land, we explored the boat and the gorgeous views of the Mediterranean Sea!

Before we knew it... we saw Palermo!

Getting off the boat was much easier than getting on (oh Palermo!) but still Tunisian style! Cars were all packed in but we all tried to squeeze cars out if there was an opening in anyway! It was so fun to watch! A father of a student at my school ended up helping us get our car out from the tight spot it was in. Oh an adventure!

At this point, we were 5 hours later and had to get to our next boat to go out to the island where we were staying for the night. But I had no way of getting a hold of the lady because I didn't have a phone card yet that worked for here. We just kept driving and driving and driving. We finally stopped at a gas station, used their phone to call the sweet lady and found out all the boats have left for the evening. So no Lipari for us! :( We headed to Messina instead and found a great place to stay for the night and the lady at the hotel gave us the BEST recommendation for dinner! It was amazing! I had to post all the pics!

Our appetizer of tartare and carrpaccio!

Dad and I got this meat that was the specialty of this region... oh so flavorful and tender!

The next two are appetizers the chef gave us for free... mom was flirting with him, apparently

Oh the desserts... amazing!
Specialty of Messina

Panna Cotta... my favorite!

Pistachio ice cream filled with chocolate

It was quite a first day full of a lot of unexpected turns but it was great to be together!
