Day 3: Catania

Today we spent the day exploring the town we were staying in!

First stop was to the local morning market and we stumbled upon this gem... roasted artichokes

The market was filled with fish, seafood, meat, cheeses and vegetables

Fresh turkey anyone?

Fresh rolled sausage

Next we made it to the main piazza where we saw the Catania cathedral (duomo)

The famous elephant statue in the sqaure

In the middle of the town we found an ancient Roman amphitheater. It was built with the town built around it- quite fascinating!

After the ruins, I had to stop and take a picture of this sign. ALL throughout Sicily you find these- tobacco and lottery shop. Literally EVERYONE... they are as common in Sicily as Starbucks is in NYC!!

For lunch, mom got her pizza! (I got eggplant... yum!)

Not sure where I took this but I loved the poppies!

We had to stop for a local specialty... brioche con gratia (gelato in sweet bread)

Right outside our airbnb was this beauty so of course we had to explore it

Not many pictures were allowed to be taken inside but it was beautiful

Catania, thanks for your beautiful town and great stay!
