Day 2: Syracuse

Today we took our sweet time- we slept in, had a leisurely breakfast and then headed out to Syracuse. It was about an hour from where we are staying and is known for its ruins. We went to a park where all the ruins are and walked around. It was a nice setup to see the ruins and was not too busy.

First stop was the Greek Theater.

It was so extensive and beautiful to see!

I loved the wildflowers growing out of the ruins.

Mom at the top of the Greek Theater.

Then we continued walking to the next ruin an the paths were beautiful.

This was a beautiful cave that had amazing sounds

The Roman Ampitheatre was last and it was interesting to see. Most it was not kept up so it shows but it truly looked like.

After our ruins viewing for the day (As mom says "once you've seen one, you've seen it all), we headed to an island at the end of Syracuse called Ortigia. Ortigia was the cutest town and so beautiful!

We went into this wonderful bakery for lunch. The owner let me peak into the kitchen to see how they make their exquisite Easter eggs.

So beautiful!

We finally got to try a Sicilian specialty called arancini (rice balls filled with a meat sauce)- so delicious!

The beautiful square where the duomo was (cathedral)

We walked around the beautiful cathedral

Loved the doors and windows

Oh Europe how I love your cuteness!

This is the Sicilian symbol- we never understood it but found it interesting

The view from the sea

For dinner, Dad and I tried Catania's specialty- horse meat. It was... interesting. Tough and not a lot of flavor. But hey, we tried it.

And after dinner, we watched Fuller House together! What fun flashback memories we had!
