I feel like the theme for this weekend was shopping! Which I guess worked out okay because I got my money on Friday! (When we get paid, we can ask for some of it to be in dinars (Tunisian currancy) and the rest go into our account. Since this country is mostly a cash country, it is nice the school does that for us.) Looking over my pictures, it does not seem very shopping focused but more food focused but trust me... there was a lot of shopping this weekend!
Friday night started out with a walk around the neighborhood with Joni. She has become my walking buddy! Our neighborhood is brand new and up and coming but very desolate. I was bound and determined to find some things here so we went out searching for places around our neighborhood! And what did we find... a restaurant that serves more than coffee, crepes, and pizzas! And it is a less than 5 minute walk from our apartment! We were so excited to find this place! And our waiter spoke English... added bonus!

Here we are with our fruity drinks (our neighborhood is dry= no alcohol)
minty lemonade
kiwi
On Saturday, Abbey and I ventured to a new part of Tunis we have not been to... Le Krem! They have a frip there each Saturday and we thought we would see what we could find! It was an interested experience to say the least! A lot of it was garage sale type things... random remotes, old laptops, and old sorts of odd finds. But we did find some treasures... Abbey got 3 house plants and we found a great veggie/fruit market! It was crowded but AMAZING deals... I got 6 eggplants and 2 pomegrantes for 700 mileemes (less than 1 dinar) which is about 50 cents! I also saw a man carrying a dead animal over his shoulder through the streets... I'm telling you- it was an experience!
Oh... the thing here is the park on the sidewalks! People walk in the middle of the road and cars park on the sidewalks. I asked Abbey to a picture for me to document this craziness! Thanks Abbey for going in the middle of the road for me!
Then we headed to this fabulous french food store!! It has amazing meats (proscuitto, bacon, smoked beef), cheeses (real cheddar!), and homemade goodies (quiches, pizzas, etc). So yummy and great deal!!
After picking up some yummy food, we headed to Carrefour! What an experience that always is! But we made it out alive! ;)
Saturday night I babysat for the Basus! I got to babysit them twice this week and I love spending time with them! Smiths and Mauzys... don't worry- it is not the same as hanging with you! And you better be leaving your end of December and beginning of January open... because I will be there as much as I can!!!
Sunday BRIGHT AND EARLY we headed to the Garmarth Frip for Laura to experience for the first time! She got some amazing clothes and it was so fun to watch her sort through the clothes! But boy oh boy was it hot! See that shirt I am wearing below... I bought it at the frip and changed right there in the middle of it all! It was a humid day for sure (which thankfully is uncommon)! So we rewarded ourselves with fresh peach juice... oh so delightful!
On our way home from Garmarth we pass LaMarsa which I just can't pass up! We went shopping for cute pottery and foutas! My house is slooooooowly getting some character!
There is a small store opening up RIGHT next door to our apartment building and we have been watching it like crazy stalkers for the past month and we are SO excited it is finally opening!! Today it wasn't offically opened but we went in and picked up a couple of things! So much fun!!!! We are so excited to have this right next to us!!
The rest of the weekend was spent doing laundry and working! I am preparing for a big trip I have planned for this weekend! I hope to post about it soon but until then...
Lots of love!!
