Today I got to experience my first Tunisian Hammam here in Tunis... Sidi Bou to be exact! A Hammam is a public Bath. Soukenia, Katie, and I talked about doing it a couple of weeks ago and Friday night Katie text both of us to see if we could go today! We excitedly said yes! Katie and Soukenia have been before but this was a first for me!
We went to the hammam at this beautiful spa called Elyspa in Sidi Bou Said! It was so magical and relaxing!
The spa from the outside
The three of us before going in
The beautiful and peaceful changing area
From here, I took no more pictures because we were only in our panties but I will take you through the steps:
*We took everything off but our panties and headed into the hammam. We went to the far room where it was all steamy and there was a fountain that we got our hot water from. We scooped it out with heart shaped scoops into our own buckets. We then rinsed with this water and washed our bodies with this beautiful smelling soap that is like putty consistency.
*Then we went into the next area and laid down on tables (kind of like plastic massage tables). Ladies scrubbed (and I mean scrubbed!!) us down with these mitts from head to toe to remove dry skin. They scrubbed hard but it felt good because they were removing all the dead skin. Then they rinsed us with warm water.
*Then we moved to lay down on our towels on tiles where they rubbed mud (in orange water) all over our bodies. We laid there for a bit to let the mud soak in.
*Then we showered to wash off the mud and we also washed our hair.
*Lastly, we went to change back into our clothes. We also admired our super soft (but red) skin.
This was such a fun and relaxing time with friends! I am glad I got to experience it with Katie and Soukenia! Can't wait until next time!
This is us with new skin! :)
