Final Days in Denmark

Sorry this trip has taken me so long to finish but here is the last of my trip to Denmark!

On Friday, we headed out to see indoor sight since it was suppose to be a rainy day.

This is a building near our apartment and I loved the elephants!

First stop was Han Christensen Andersen Museum. He lived in Denmark.

Many of his stories were made into interactive exhibits- they were neat to watch. We didn't realize how sad many of his stories were. Let's just say Disney's The Little Mermaid has a happier ending!

After the museum we headed to town hall for a tour.  Let me tell you, the inside of town hall is super cool! It was just so beautiful and done with such detail. It was a neat tour for sure! And our tour guide was also the "flag guy" who changed out the flags on the top of the town hall. He showed us the closet where he keeps all the flags- that was cool to see. And they had a Tunisian flag!

After our tour, we headed to lunch and for the first time since we had been in Denmark I can truly say I had danish food. It was so yummy!

We started with gluwhein! Perfect for a drizzly day!

Lunch was spectacular! Beef with sauce, roasted potatoes and pumpkin puree! Yum!

 

We walked by the Lego store again and even though it was closed for renovations (seriously??), here are poster displays in the windows of Coopenhagen.

We walked to take our canal boat tour of Copenhagen! It was nice to be inside and warm!

 Here is the famous little mermaid statue.

For dinner, we ate at a small Greek restaurant by our apartment. It was so yummy and authentic! Sweet little Greek man ran it.

 

 On Saturday, we rented a car and headed out of town to see more of Denmark. First stop was the Karen Blixen Museum which was her house when she lived in Denmark! She was born in Denmark and lived there except for the years she lived in Kenya on a tea farm. It was neat to see where she lived and to read her life story.

Unfortunately, we could not take pictures inside her home. But here is the outside of the house. 

After lunch, we headed to the Vikings Museum.

This is a church boat which 60 people would ride in to get to church.

We could see them making replicas of Viking ships- what a process!

We also got to dress up like Vikings!

After dinner Saturday night, we headed to bed as I had to get up super early to catch my flight.

Before flying out, I stopped at Joe and the Juice- it was all over Coopenhagen so I had to give it a try and I got a breakfast smoothie.

It was a whirlwind of a Fall Break but I am grateful I was able to do all I  did! It was a great trip!

Traveling in numbers:

10 days, 7 planes, 5 countries (including layovers but hey, those count ;), 4 layovers, 4 different currencies, 3 continents, one 90 year old grandma and lots of loved ones!

Day 2 in Copenhagen: Full of Sightseeing!

On Thursday, we headed out to see as much of Copenhagen as we could because the weather was suppose to be good (no rain!). We saw a lot, had a lot of fun and it was my favorite day in Copenhagen!

We started out by going to the Rosenberg Slot (castle). On our way there we saw the changing of the guards- too cool!

Many, many, many people bike around Copenhagen so the bike racks were always full!

Oh the crown jewels were just beautiful!

As we were leaving the slot, the guards were changing again!

Next stop was a food court/market that had a variety of stalls inside!

After a yummy lunch of seafood salads, we headed to the pedestrian streets for walking, shopping and sightseeing!

In the middle of the pedestrian streets was The Round Tower. It was neat to walk to the top because it was a ramp the whole time- not stairs.

And the views as we climbed were awesome!

To rest our feet we stopped for coffee/hot chocolate and Flodeboller (a danish treat of cream dipped in chocolate)

Next up was walking and shopping through the pedestrian street

We also walked by town hall (we toured it the next day)

Last stop of the day was Tivoli! My favorite stop by far! It was an amusement park that was decorated and themed for Halloween!

After our long and wonderful day of sightseeing, we made it back to our apartment to rest our feet! What a great day!
