The Bardo Museum

The Bardo is a very famous museum that has the largest collection of mosaics in the world. I have always heard so much about it but have never been. It is in downtown Tunis about 30 minutes from my house. It is also the place where the terrorist attacks that killed 20 people took place a few weeks ago. My friend, Sonya, from work has never been before either so we went together yesterday. The collection of atrifacts from all over Tunisia are amazing! It is a beautiful museum with now a tragic story. But I loved touring the museum. It was a great day!

These we right outside the door to honor the victims who died.

These are the flags of the countries where the victims lived.

We started with this part of the museum first which is inside an old palace. It was really neat!

When lots of these mosacis were found, they were missing pieces which is why there are open parts.

Wonderful and ancient artifacts

The front door of the palace

These statues were lying down because they were repairing them

A baptistry

From what I understand, the terrorists came through the left doorway and went up the stairs.
I just loved the tile work.

These terracotta tiles show stories from the bible

This is the first book of the Torah

A mosaic baptistry with some many details and stories told through the tiles

Sonya thought he was pretty cute ;)

First signs of the attack: bullet holes

We were told three Japanese people were killed in this room

Sonya looked out the window in the same room and saw this... Parliament! It all made sense now... this where they tried to attack first.

Love the ceiling work

Love these pictures of Sonya and I before we head home!
